Do Not Expect Immediate Supreme Court Decision on Cert Petition

In an exchange under the comments in the previous post, an anonymous poster cites the Supreme Court's case distribution schedule page and asks whether the justices will rule very quickly on whether they will hear the appeal of the November 2007 ruling by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, which invalidated the class action copyright settlement on jurisdictional grounds.

The definitive answer to the poster's question is: The August 25 date on the case distribution schedule refers to the date by which an opposition to the petition for certiorari must be filed. There is no way to tell from that information when the Court will consider the petition, but it will probably be some months after that.
